With the steady rise in the cost of living, it’s no surprise
that the average Filipino worker struggles to make ends meet. Back in 2015, the
inflation rate was a modest 0.69%, but the years that followed saw a sharp
climb—peaking at 6% in 2023. Although inflation eased to 3.2% in 2024, the
lingering effects of previous surges have already driven up the prices of
essential goods, making everyday life increasingly difficult for many
To cope with the rising cost of living, many Filipinos have
embraced multiple income streams—taking on freelance work, launching small
businesses, and pursuing side hustles. I’m no exception. Like countless others
striving to make ends meet, I’ve turned to alternative sources of income to
help offset the growing expenses of everyday essentials. Here are the side
hustles or other income source I’ve taken on to ease the financial strain.
Storewards
Storewards is an easy cashback app that can be used to earn extra money. All you have to do is snap a picture of your receipts from M Supermarket, SM Marketplace, SaveMore, SM Hypermarket, Puregold Supermarket, Puregold Junior, Puregold Extra and Mercury Drug that are purchased in Metro Manila, Rizal, and Bulacan (Balagtas, Bocaue, Meycauayan). Once you earn the required number of points you can now withdraw your money and transfer it to your Paypal account or get a gift card to AllDay.
You can withdraw from Php 100 to Php 1,000 depending on the points earned. I was able to earn Php 100.00 per month from uploading pictures of my receipts. Shopback
If you do your shopping via online stores, Shopback is a good app you can try to earn extra money. Shopback is a cashback app where you can earn through shopping with their partner stores, answering surveys and playing games. They have a lot of popular partner stores like Shoppee, Lazada, Food Panda, Zalora, Agoda, and Klook to name a few.
I love their Surveywall which provides shorter surveys, and I always qualify for the surveys unlike the other Survey Apps that I tried. Their surveys are also easy, which sometimes include a quick profile update where you can still earn a small amount.
You can also earn by playing games that are available in
their Play Zone. They offer a wide variety of games and there are weekends that
they offer to double your earnings from the games.
The minimum withdrawable amount is Php 200 and you can
transfer your earnings to their partner banks like BPI, BDO, Metrobank to name
a few or to an e-wallet like GCash, Paypal and Paymaya
Honeygain
Honeygain is a free app that let you earn by sharing your
unused internet. Once installed in your mobile phone, or in your PC or laptop,
it will run quietly in your background while you do your daily routine. Once
you reach 15MB in a day, you can open your lucky pot and earn additional
honeygain credits from 1 to 50. New users receive $5 in their wallet. You earn
10 cents per GB that you shared. You have to reach $20 to be able to withdraw
your earnings to your Paypal account. For a quick way to earn through Honeygain is by referrals where you earn an additional 5USD when a friend pays out.
As you are sharing your internet, Honeygain makes sure that
you are safe by having the necessary firewall, an anti-cheat system and 2FA.
It took me 1year and a half to finally get my first
withdrawal with Honeygain but I am not complaining since it is a passive income
that I don't have to do anything after I install it. You can sign-up for Honeygain using my referral link:
Final Words
Since these are passive income streams that don’t require ongoing effort, it’s natural for withdrawals to take some time. That’s why I choose to maintain multiple sources of income—to ensure stability and flexibility. Patience is key as you wait to reach the minimum withdrawal threshold.
